This is D-day against the tyranny of the robots. Good luck....

• Every weapon powerup you take will reduce the chances of getting out of the level alive.
• Every invulnerability and cloaking device you take will reduce the chances of getting out of the level alive.
• Every secondary weapon that you use before the reactor room will reduce the chances of getting out of the level alive.
• The reactor room....I leave that for later.

When you first enter the level, sidetrack the Spreadfire Cannon in the middle and open the door in front of you. Once the door opens, fire at the Super Hulk at the other end and destroy it. Then, enter the room and destroy the two Medium Hulks.

Next, you will have to grab the blue key. Open the door to your right and stop when you go over the shaft. Turn around and slide down the shaft. Once you see the Fusion Hulks at the bottom, aim at the nearest one and destroy it as quickly as possible. Then, find the other Fusion Hulks and destroy them as well.

Once you have destroyed the Fusion Hulks, turn around and fire at the wall in front of you. This will open a door with an invulnerability. Note its location, but do not pick it up. Move forward and locate a passageway in the ceiling. Destroy the two Super Hulks lurking around and go up the shaft at the other end of the room. This will lead you to the blue key.
 
Once you grab the blue key, you may go back up the shaft to the opening room to access the blue door or you may go to the area behind the Fusion Hulks that you have destroyed. If you use the latter route(which I recommend), you may pick up the cloaking device located there...it is located too far away to the reactor room.

If you enter the blue door in the opening room, you will encounter two Class 1 Heavy Drillers. Destroy them, and go down the shaft.

If you enter by the door with the cloaking device, you will come under attack by a Fusion Hulk. Destroy it and pick up the shield powerups that it drops.

At the shaft where it leads to the yellow key, there will be a Fusion Hulk. Be extremely careful that you do not get taken by surprise. Destroy it, go up the shaft, and grab the key.

You will have to return to the opening room to access the yellow door.

Once you enter the yellow door, move forward, turn around, and take out the Green Platform Robot. Then turn around and take out the cloaked Medium Hulk in front of the door. Turn around again and grab the red key.

Next, go into the door which the cloaked Medium Hulk has blocked. There are three invulnerabilities in front of you...note their position, but do not take them. There are also four cloaking devices. Destroy the four cloaked Medium Hulks in the corners.

Now, return to the room with the Spreadfire Cannon and open the door which you have not opened.

Once you open the door, aim at the Green Platform Robot and destroy it. Next, destroy the Defense Robots. This will clear about half the enemies.

Next, open the door to your left. Destroy the Green Platform Robots and the Class 1 Heavy Drillers. This will clear almost all the enemies. Note the powerups.

There are several secret doors in this area. To your right are two secret doors. One of the doors contains an invulnerability. Find it, note its location, but do not pick it up. The other door contains a cloaking device and another secret door leading to the cache of smart missiles that you saw in the yellow key zone.

Enter the door across from the door from which you entered the room. Turn left and fire at the ceiling. This will reveal a secret door. Go in it, and destroy the Class 1 Drillers and the Green Platform Robot in the corridor. This will lead you to the cache of mega missiles in the yellow key zone.

Now, pick up the invulnerability and quickly head for the red door.

As in level 7, there is no reactor, but a boss robot. This robot is armed with two mega missile launchers and has about double the resistance of the boss robot in level 7. One mistake in this room will result in an large loss of shields or the loss of a life.

The reactor room is one large robot generator. At the ends of the catwalk will appear all the robots that you have faced in the eariler levels.

Actually, this boss robot is easier to beat than it looks. Immediately go down into the pits and find the boss robot. Once you locate him, aim your weapons and fire any primary weapon desired(I use the plasma cannon, but other people have used the lasers and the fusion cannon) and all your secondary weapons at the same time. Once you see your invulnerability run out, get out of the pit immediately head for the red door(it is not locked), pick up some more secondary weapons, grab another invulnerability, and repeat the procedure.

If you run out of invulnerabilities, pick up more secondary weapons and a cloaking device. This time, hover over the pits and locate the boss robot. When you see it, fire all your weapons, but make sure you move around to avoid weapons fire.

In the reactor room is what I call a rest area. Go to the niche across from the red door and open the secret door in the floor. Go down the shaft and open the secret door at the bottom. You will see a weapons cache of every weapon that you will need. It is guarded by cloaked Medium Lifters, which can be easily taken care of.

Once you see the 10,000 points register in your score, get out of the pit and stand right at the exit. Once the exit opens, get out of the mine.

Take a deep breath. You just defeated Descent I. Have fun watching the end sequence.
