Level 26: Pluto Military Base

Introduction:

Be prepared for a fast, frantic level with Fusion Hulks taking shots all around you. This level is guarded by all sorts of enemies. This level also has enough smart and mega missiles to recharge you for the last level.

Warnings:

You will do a lot of navigating around catwalks. However, almost every catwalk is guarded by Fusion Hulks, which can take potshots through the grating(!). When moving around in a catwalk, move as quickly as possible.

Opening Room and Yellow Key Room

Opening Room:

When you enter the level, open the door and take out the Class 1 Drones in the catwalk. Then, quickly go straight to the door ahead.

Yellow Key Room:

Before entering the room, destroy the Class 1 Heavy Driller in the antechamber, but do not pick up the cloaking device. Note the location of the exit. Now open the door. If you have a smart missile or a mega missile, you may use one of each in this room. You will have to turn cautiously around the corner and destroy the three Fusion Hulks and the Small Hulks. Once you have done so, enter the room, pick up the yellow key, and return to the antechamber.

Hostage Area

Once you enter the door from the opening room, destroy the Medium Hulk and the Green Platform Robot ahead of you, then quickly enter the door indicated to access the blue key.

The hostages are located here as well. DO NOT TRY TO RESCUE THEM YET. You will rescue them after you have cleared the reactor room of all enemies. When you do rescue the hostages, you will have to fight Class 1 Drones and a Super Hulk through a catwalk.

Blue Key Room

After you enter the door, turn left and go through the door and the catwalk quickly, since the catwalk is flanked by Green Platform Robots. Once you enter the door at the other end of the catwalk, turn right and destroy the two Small Hulks. Turn back to the way that you entered and turn right at the corner. Keep following the path until you reach the door. Destroy the Small Hulk guarding the door. Then, open the door, turn your ship to the right, and slide left into the door. Once you see the Super Hulk in your sights, open fire and destroy it. Finally, go in the door and grab the blue key.

There are two secret doors. One is indicated on the map and contains a plasma cannon and some energy powerups. The other door(it's not indicated because I discovered this after I made the map) is located across from the secret door previously mentioned. It does contain a Super Hulk, but there are smart and mega missiles in this secret area.

You will have to return to the opening room by the way you came to access the blue door. Once you reach the opening room, quickly go straight and turn right at the intersection. The door in front of you will be the blue door.

Red Key Room

Once you enter the blue door, aim down and destroy the Class 1 Heavy Driller in the shaft. Go all the way down the shaft. Pick up the invulnerability ahead and destroy the Class 1 Drillers, the Super Hulk, and any other enemy that you see. Then, go up the shaft with the smart missiles. You will see another catwalk and a yellow door. Go quickly down the catwalk and turn right at the first side passage. At the T-intersection, make another right turn. Destroy the Small Hulk that you see at point blank range(stopping to hit it in the catwalk makes you a sitting duck for the Fusion Hulk lurking outside the catwalk). Keep going and immediately aim at the Fusion Hulk that you will see, and destroy it. Then, destroy the Medium Hulk.

From there, you may go straight for a weapons cache or you may make an u-turn and access the yellow key.

Once you have grabbed the yellow key, return to the yellow doors. Make sure you enter the correct yellow door(the other door leads to a dead end). If you open the door and you see a Super Hulk, destroy it and go on...you are in the correct blue door. Go right up to the secret door in front of you and slide to your left. This will open a secret room with a cloaking device. Grab the cloaking device, go up the corridor, and destroy the two Super Hulks guarding the key.

There are three other secret doors. Two of them will lead to mega missiles, and one will lead to two smart missiles guarded by a Fusion Hulk.

Return to the yellow key room to access the reactor room.

Reactor Room

Once you enter the antechamber leading to the yellow key room, pick up the cloaking device. Then, go into the yellow key room and find a secret room in the floor under the junction of the catwalks above. This room contains an invulnerability, which you should pick up. Then, open the red door and take out as many enemies as you can.

The reactor room is guarded by five Super Hulks and several Class 1 Drillers and Class 1 Heavy Drillers. There is also a cloaking device inside the reactor room if needed. Once you have destroyed all the enemies in the reactor room, return to the hostage cell and rescue the hostages. Then, return and attack the reactor. The reactor is only open at two sides and the space is constrained.

Once you blow the reactor, go back to the antechamber leading to the yellow key room and the exit is in the ceiling.
