Level 19: Oberon Mine |
Oberon: "Through the house give glimmering light
by the dead and drowsy fire; every elf and fairy sprite hop as light as
bird from brier...." |
If you have a fusion cannon, a plasma cannon, and enough vulcan ammo, then this level should be one of the easiest to go through. You will be meeting mostly Small Hulks, Medium Lifters, and a occasional Class 1 Heavy Driller, Green Platform Robot, and Super Hulk. This level is also confusing, so use your automap frequently.
This room is one of the two areas that contains hostages. This area is located at the upper level in one of the quadrants. This area is guarded minimally and should not pose much of a problem.
If you do not have at least full shields, you may not want to rescue these hostages first. You may want to wait until you are ready to attack the reactor before rescuing the hostages.
The other hostage cell is located in the same vicinity as in the red key.
The Blue Key Room and the Yellow Key Room will be discussed together, since they are located so close to each other.
Blue Key Room: Once you enter the door leading to the bridge
that leads to the room containing the blue key, you will have to move FAST.
The robot generator will activate in the Yellow Key Room, generating Class
1 Heavy Drillers. The robots in the Yellow Key Room can fire through the
bridge.
The blue key is guarded by several Medium Drillers and a Green Platform
Robot. You must destroy them all before attempting to take the key since
they will block your path in or out.
You will have to cross the bridge in order to get to the blue door. Go
QUICKLY across the bridge and destroy the two Small Hulks waiting for you
outside the door.
Yellow Key Room: The robot generators will activate once you enter the room. If you are foolhardy, then you can attempt to destroy all the enemies that emerge from the generator. The better way to handle this room is to grab the key and get out of the room FAST. If you die in this room, do not attempt to return to the room; you will get yourself killed again.
The lower level is divided into two rings; an inner ring and a outer ring. For beginners, it is suggested that you avoid the outer ring.
If you are couragrous, you may want to try the outer ring. The outer ring contains many good powerups(e.g. there is at least a fusion cannon and smart missile) but has several generators producing Class 1 Heavy Drillers.
The room leading to the Yellow Key may be accessed by shafts located in the inner ring as indicated.
This area is a maze. You will meet two Small Hulks and a Medium Hulk at the start. Destroy them and proceed.
You will have to work your way through the maze in order to find the red key and the other hostage cell.
The maze is guarded by several Super Hulks and several Class 1 Heavy Drillers. However, there is a way to the the key without meeting any other enemy than the Hulks that you destroyed earlier.
I'm not too sure about this, but there is a secret door right next to the red key that leads to a smart missile.
After grabbing the key and the hostages. you will have to work your way out to the entrance of the maze in order to access the reactor room.
This reactor is guarded by four Super Hulks and four Class 1 Heavy Drillers. Upon opening the red door, a Super Hulk will immediately attack you. Destroy it as quickly as possible.
You may want to pick up the cloaking device and the shield powerups next. Next, go and destroy as many of the enemies as possible. You should be able to destroy all but one or two enemies. When your cloaking device runs out, destroy the remaining enemies as quickly as possible.
Once you have defeated the enemies, go and rescue any hostages that you missed. Then, access the secret door and pick up the fusion cannon and the various powerups located in the secret room and then, destroy the reactor.
The reactor is located in a confined area and circling the reactor is almost impossible. You may want to take some shots from one side, then run to the other side and take some shots.
Once you blow the reactor, leave the reactor room and keep going up the shaft. The exit is at the top end of the shaft.
