Level 15: Titan Mine Troilus: "You understand me not that tell me so. I do not speak of flight, of fear of death, but dare all imminence that gods and men address their dangers in. Hector is gone. Who shall tell Priam so, or Hecuba? Let him that will a screech-owl aye be call'd go in to Troy, and say there 'Hector's dead.' Note: This level walkthrough is applicable to only the registered version of Descent I. It is not applicable to the OEM version of Descent I("Destination Saturn").


Introduction:

This level is a level that can be played as a relaxing method after a hard day of work. I call this level Hulk Heaven...it is a very appropriate name since you all you will be going against are Medium Hulks and Super Hulks. In addition, there are three invulnerability powerups, making certain rooms easier.


Warnings:

Opening Room

The opening room contains the hostages, the blue key, and the path to the rest of the level. This room is guarded by four Medium Hulks, two Super Hulks, and one cloaked Medium Hulk.

When you first enter the level, you will come under attack by a Medium Hulk. Slide to evade the missiles and head immediately to the blue key room. You will tackle this room after you have grabbed the blue key.

The hostages are located as indicated on the map.


Blue Key Room

The blue key is located behind a grate. To access the room behind the grate, face left and fire at the spot on the wall located to the left and down from the normal door. This will open a secret door. Enter it,  and slide around the invulnerability. Continue and destroy the cloaked Medium Hulk in the shaft. Then, go up the shaft and turn right, picking up the spreadfire cannon if desired, and grab the blue key. Return back to the main room, sliding around the invulnerability.

Next, enter the normal door. Enter the room and destroy the two Medium Hulks in the room.

Now, you are ready to attack the opening room. Grab the invulnerability from the secret room indicated on the map, and unload all the weapons that you got on the enemies in the opening room. If the invulnerability runs out before you can destroy every enemy, pick up the invulnerability in the room leading to the blue key, and continue.

Once you have destroyed all the enemies, proceed on to the rest of the level.


T-Junction

Going down the passage indicated from the opening room, you will come upon a shaft. Go down the shaft and blast the two Medium Hulks in the two antechambers before this junction.

This junction is guarded by two Medium Hulks. They will be in front of you. Take them out as quickly as possible, and immediately head for the passage to the right.

While attacking the hulks, be careful that you do not get in front of the yellow door. If you do so, you will activate the robot generators, forming Super Hulks. If this happens, immediately blow up any remaining Medium Hulks quickly, and immediately head down the passage on the right.


Exit Chamber

Taking the right passage leads you to the exit chamber. It is guarded by two Medium Hulks and three Super Hulks. You should destroy the Super Hulk in front first, then immediately go into the corridor that the Super Hulk was guarding and destroy the two Super Hulks by the blue door as quickly as possible, and then the Medium Hulks.

The energy generator is located here. It may be accessed by the two lower passages.

There is an invulnerability located in the room to your left. This area also contains the exit. DO NOT PICK UP THE INVULNERABILTY YET. You will need it in the reactor room.

Head down the corridor to your far right to continue this level.


Yellow Key Room

After entering the door, you will come upon a chamber full of Medium Hulks. You should destroy them all before proceeding on. There is also two smart missiles located in a secret room that can be accessed by a secret door in the ceiling of one of the niches.

After you have destroyed all the Medium Hulks, enter the door at the left. This will take you into a maze that contains the yellow key at the end. This area is filled with Medium Hulks and two Super Hulks.

Once you reach the area shown on the map, grab the cloaking device indicated on the map. It is guarded by a Medium Hulk...just destroy it and grab the cloaking device. Next, destroy the Super Hulk that is blocking the yellow key. Then, grab the key.

This area also has several secret rooms. They are located on the blue walls. You should be able to see the seam of the door. These rooms will give you smart missiles, mega missiles, and homing missiles.

You will have to return to T-Junction to access the yellow door. Before accessing the yellow door, you may want to rescue the hostages.


Yellow Key Zone

This room reminds me of a mortar and pestle(sorry for the reference). :-)

This area is divided into two levels. You should take out the Medium Hulks in the upper level and the Hulks in the junctures between the upper and lower levels first.

Then, take out the Medium Hulks in the lower level. If you do not have a fusion cannon, grab it on the platform located in the lower level, and use it to blow up the Medium Hulks.

When you have destroyed all the Medium Hulks, find the side passage located on the lava in the lower level. This is the passage to the red key.
 


Red Key Room
 
The red key is guarded by two Super Hulks. The room is also very constrained, so you will have difficulty evading homing missiles. 

Enter the room and go up to the grating, and slide up. This wil open a secret room with a cloaking device. Grab it and send the Super Hulks to the junkyard, and grab the red key. 

You will have to return to the exit junction to access the reactor. The generators in T-Junction will activate, but ignore them and head for the reactor.


Reactor Room

If you were careful and you did not pick up the invulnerability inside the exit chamber, this is where it will repay you. Grab the invulnerability, enter the reactor room, send the three Super Hulks to the junkyard, blow the reactor, and get out of the mine.

If you did pick up the invulnerability, you are in deep water...you will have to somehow get around the Super Hulks. The reactor room is shaped so that circling around the Super Hulks is impossible. In addition, evading homing missiles is almost impossible because of the shape and the size of the room. In this case, I leave you to your own fate....
